When opening a binder in Excel Desktop, if you are prompted with the following error message:
1. Open your Binder in the Active platform. If applicable, change the status of the binder from "Completed" to "In Progress."
2- Then open the binders in Excel Desktop and select "Yes" on the error message that asks to repair the binder.
3- After selecting "Yes," Excel will begin repairing the file. Once the repair is finished it should allow you to see all of the worksheets and it should allow you to load the side pane.
4- At this point, you would need to save the repaired file somewhere on your computer (e.g. desktop)
(when saving the binder, please add .xlsx at the end of the file name)

5- Your saved copy should contain all of your data and should be in a repaired state. (you can Open it locally to verify that everything looks good.)
6- Once this is done, follow the steps below to check out the corrupt binder that exists on the Active platform and check in your repaired copy (from your desktop):

A- Enable Firm Setting: (to allow checking out/checking in)
- Go to Admin Centre (admin access required) > Workpapers Admin > Firm Details [or visit this link: https://workpapers.businessfitness.com.au/admin/manage-firm/firm-details]
- Scroll down, tick "Allow Excel binder checkout," and press "Save and Close."
- Wait 2 minutes for the sync to complete.**
**You may need to log out and log back in after 2 minutes for the changes to take effect.
B- Check Out a Binder:
- Open the corrupt binder you wish to check out.
- Click the "Checkout" option in the dropdown menu beside the "Open in Excel" dropdown option at the top right.
This will remove the binder from the Active platform/SharePoint and download it to your local computer. The "Open in Excel" option will now change to "Check In."
C- Check In a Binder:
- Ensure the copy of the binder you are checking in has the most recent data (repaired file) and is saved locally on your computer.
- Open the same binder, and you will see a "Check In" option at the top right.
- Click "Check In" and browse for the correct repaired file you wish to upload to the Active platform.
Once you've successfully checked in your repaired file (from Step 4) with the most recent data into Active, all other users will be able to use the version you have uploaded and any export and rollover functions should work thereafter. You can change the binder status back to completed if applicable.
Open the binder in Excel Online and ensure you don't see a workbook is corrupt message.

Excel Desktop sometimes has a tendency to hold onto old memory, so if you still get this error when opening the repaired binder:
You will need to click "No" to the above message, close Excel completely, and then ask your IT to clean the contents of this folder: `C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0\OfficeFileCache`. Afterward, try reopening the binder again in Excel desktop.
